Your Courts Up Close

February 17, 2026

Your Courts Up Close returned for its first session of 2026, with Judge Isenhower welcoming attendees—both first-time participants and returning guests.

The evening’s first speaker, State Attorney Thomas Bakkedahl, who brings more than 35 years of experience as a prosecutor, explained the critical role prosecutors play in the justice system. He emphasized how lengthy and complex cases can become—even after a trial concludes—highlighting death penalty cases as an example of how appeals and post-conviction proceedings may extend for many years.

Chief Judge Schwab also addressed participants and delivered an informative presentation featuring a detailed slideshow. He outlined his responsibilities as a circuit judge and walked attendees through what a typical week in court entails. His presentation provided a practical overview of courtroom proceedings, case management, and the broad range of matters judges oversee each day.

Overall, Your Courts Up Close offered valuable behind-the-scenes insight into the judicial system, fostering a deeper understanding of how justice is administered in the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit.
