On September 17 and 18, judges and staff from the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit marked Constitution Day with engaging civic education activities in both Martin and St. Lucie Counties.
In Martin County, judges and the circuit’s general counsel visited schools throughout the county, speaking directly with students about the Constitution and the role of the judiciary. These classroom visits gave students the opportunity to learn about the Constitution in a meaningful and interactive way.
In St. Lucie County, the courthouse opened its doors to students from Treasure Coast High School, Fort Pierce Westwood, and St. Lucie West Centennial for a hands-on mock trial program, Civil Discourse and Difficult Decisions. Nineteenth Circuit Judges Sweet, Schwab, and Porter, and Federal Magistrate Judge Shaniek Maynard, guided the students through the proceedings, helping them experience firsthand how the courts apply constitutional principles in real-world cases.
Teachers and students alike praised the program for bringing the Constitution to life in an accessible, memorable way. These events reflect the Circuit’s ongoing commitment to civic education and to fostering a deeper understanding of the Constitution among young people in our community.
