UNIFORM MOTION CALENDARS AND SPECIAL SET HEARINGS: All UMC hearings to be heard must be scheduled online.
DO NOT SPECIAL SET A HEARING UNLESS YOU HAVE FILED YOUR MOTION WITH THE CLERK AT LEAST ONE BUSINESS DAY BEFORE YOU SPECIAL SET THE HEARING (the reason for this is explained below).
DO NOT SET FOR HEARING A MOTION FOR REHEARING OR RECONSIDERATION OF A PRIOR RULING WITHOUT COURT PERMISSION! OF COURSE, YOU MAY FILE SUCH A MOTION AND ALERT THE COURT THAT YOU HAVE FILED IT BY CALLING OR E-MAILING THE COURT’S J.A. THE COURT WILL REVIEW YOUR MOTION IN CHAMBERS AND DECIDE WHETHER FURTHER ORAL ARGUMENT IS NECESSARY PRIOR TO RULING ON YOUR MOTION.CONTEMPORANEOUS WITH YOUR NOTIFICATION TO THE J.A., PLEASE E-MAIL THE COURT’S J.A. A PROPOSED ORDER ON REHEARING IN WORD FORMAT.
Attorneys may schedule UMC hearings (total time 10 minutes or less – that UMC time includes time for the judge to read the papers) as well as Special Set Motions (1 hour or under) using the online scheduling program. In order to request more than one hour of time for a special set hearing, the parties must notice a UMC hearing and appear before the judge on the UMC calendar to seek court approval for the request. Parties will be restricted to the time they allotted for the hearing. UMC motions are non-evidentiary and five minutes per side – including in court review by the judge of the papers. Please do not abuse this procedure. You may use courtcall for UMC only, unless otherwise authorized. The online calendar will indicate when UMC, and Special Set hearings, are to be scheduled.
The online website to set hearings is https://slccjis.stlucieco.gov/attorney_calendar . Users must register to obtain a user ID and password on the site. Cancellation of hearings should be done online. Thank you for your cooperation.
When you specially set a hearing using the online method, the judge is automatically alerted to your setting by e-mail. He will then review your motion, by accessing the Clerk’s clericus information. That is why you file your motion before setting the hearing (so he can read it immediately upon being notified electronically of your filing). However, he will not be notified if the opposing party subsequently files a responsive brief (which is welcomed) with the clerk or if the moving party subsequently files a supportive memorandum , so BE SURE TO E-MAIL THE J.A., ALERTING HER TO THE FILING OF YOUR SUBSEQUENTLY FILED RESPONSIVE BRIEF OR SUPPORTIVE MEMORANDUM. She will advise the judge of your filing, and he will read it on Clericus (the Clerk’s online program). You may still send papers to the judge, but he prefers to read them online after being alerted by these means.
